It is a 2.3l manual transmission Ford Ranger
I have developed this squeal when I start to accelerate. It goes away when I hit 3rd gear.
I have read that when you put it reverse and accelerate it should squeal. It doesn't.
Also when I put it in reverse it rarely goes in without a clunk, but this has been around since I have bought it. About a year ago, but have not put to much attention to it because I thought it was the slave cylinder and I changed it and it was not it. So I lived with it since.
In addition it is hard to put it in first gear but always goes in. Sometimes are harder than others. Also lived with it for about a year.
This squeal is really annoying though and I know it is not the brakes because I JUST replaced them.
Any advice?
What are symptoms of a bad driveshaft u joint?
Have you checked the gear oil level in the transmission recently? Low fluid level could cause a synchronizer gear to whine. The %26quot;clunk%26quot; is a bad u-joint, you have a front and rear on the drive shaft. The squeal is most likely the throw-out bearing in the transmission. Some throw-out bearings have grease fittings on them. It could be the clutch slipping, but as you sometimes have problems putting it in gear, it indicates the throw-out bearing is not pushing the clutch far enough from the flywheel. It really makes the most sense to replace the clutch plate, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing as a set. Also surfacing the flywheel if it needs it (once and done). This way you should get many more miles without issues.
What are symptoms of a bad driveshaft u joint?
Symptoms of a bad drive shaft u joint are, squeaking, clunking when put in gear. It sounds like you should take your car to a shop. Too many sounds to diagnose this way. This could be so many things. Ask around to find a good Mechanic. Recommendations are a good way to go. The mechanic makes the difference not the shop itself. Mechanic's move follow the good ones they are hard to find.
