Post/ABC poll shows oil-and coal-funded efforts to kill clean energy are failing?

The Washington Post is reporting this morning that according to joint poll conducted with ABC News, a majority of Americans support Obama’s and Congress’ efforts to overhaul US energy policy, and that support includes passage of comprehensive climate and energy legislation. Says the Post:

“Nearly six in 10 of those polled support the proposed changes to U.S. energy policy being developed by Congress and the administration. Fifty-five percent of Americans approve of the way Obama is handling the issue, compared with 30 percent who do not.”

And, the poll found that 58 percent of Americans would support lowering global warming pollution even if it cost them $10 more month. Two interesting points on this: One is that the Department of Energy says proposed legislation would cost as little as 23 cents a day - in other words, $6.90 per month, well below the $10 threshold. Wonder how that would affect the support figures?

Second interesting point is that the 58 percent level of support is 2 percent higher than the last time the Post/ABC poll posed the question, back in June.

Which means that this summer’s oil- and coal- fueled barrage of attacks on clean energy have pretty much failed to persuade Americans that the US should stick with dirty energy.

And the failure to change the minds of real Americans probably explains why we are seeing so much fake opposition to clean energy.

This has been a summer full of forged letters, fake constituents, ficticious FACES and fabricated citizen groups courtesy of financing from the likes of Peabody (the world’s biggest coal company), ExxonMobil (the world’s biggest publicly-traded oil company) and Koch Industries (one of the world’s most dedicated supporters of front groups).

With the astro-turf growing so out of control, its nice to see a reliable measure of public opinion cut it short again.

Exactly what 'front-groups are being financed for the purpose of 'killing clean energy?

How much money are each of the fossil fuel companies that you mention contributing to each of the 'front groups' that you mention?

Just curious.

Good to know.

But livestock production actually impacts the environment more than the transportation sector. No one is talking about this. We have a long way to go to convince people to eat less meat.
Actually, I know people in the power industry and they know that solar and wind power alone are not enough to fuel the United States needs for energy. Also, the actual cost for Cap and Trade would be a lot more the $10 per month. Finally, without seeing the questions, it is hard to see how the polls might be biased.

I have a few questions on repairs for my car, will you help me out please?

to begin with, my car kinda clunks sometimes( not always) when i slow down or when i accelerate, so its either the ball joints, tie joints or what i think it is( u joints). i finally found some u joints on jc whitney for a '62 galaxie for 20 bucks. the question is, how much would the labor be to replace them?

next, i cant roll my front driver side window down. the window crank fell off along with the spring for it. the question is, what am i missing since when the crank fell down, i was able to latch it on for a little while and roll it down but i cant do that anymore. how much?

ive driven the galaxie almost three thousand miles since i got it, so that means its time for an oil change. the problem is, the left hood hinge has snapped and i dont want to touch it until i replace that. can i wait another week or two to get the hinges before the oil gets changed?

i drive the galaxie everyday, and i drive safe and conservatively. what can i do to ensure it lasts a long time? i bought it for 5 grand and it has been restored already, so i dont want to let go of her..... i wash her twice a week, nothin stupid, i think smart.....im goin to get the oil change within two weeks after the hinges, and will get a full tune up in another three thousand miles.... she has a total of 63,000 miles and shes a four door town sedan with the 292 thunberbird v8 and ford-o-matic 2 speed transmission. if i take care of her, how long will she last? can i drive her for years without worrying about the engine or transmission. when i took it to the mechanics earlier( couple of months ago) for a tune up, they said it was in great shape and i got a deal for five grand( another grand for repairs, six total)

It's a 47 year old Ford, and it's falling apart around your ears.

How much do you want to bet that that odometer has gone

around at least once already.

Question for Dodge Stealth owners?

I have a 1992 Stealth RT /TT that is in mint shape with only 50,000 miles. I have a couple of problems that I (or the dodge dealer) can't diagnose. When I give it's gas in first gear and let it off and push in the clutch, it makes a clunk sound and it seems to lose a bit of forward momentum, to the point of feeling somewhat pushed forward in your seat. It feels like a broken motor mount, but the mounts are fine. The driveshaft U joints are tight and it has a new transfer case (when changed, Dogde dealer said the splines were in good shape. The second problem is the stearing. It doesn't want to stay on center, the slightest bump will cause it to pull to the right or left and when I turn the opposite way ,it will go past center and pull the other way. I just had a four wheel alignment done at Dodge and all suspention parts are tight and in good shape. It's an allwheel drive, allwheel stearing and electronic controlled suspension vehicle. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Question for Dodge Stealth owners?
For the drive-line %26quot;clunk%26quot; have the rear differential checked.

For the steering issues have the ball joints checked. My 92 RT/TT did this until I replaced the bad ball joint.

While the vehicle is a dodge its 12 years since they were sold new you will find most Dodge dealers are just checking the manual and have no first hand experience. Some Mitsubishi dealers are better as its sister car the 3000GT was sold until 1999.
Question for Dodge Stealth owners?
I dont think dodge had all the bugs workded out of the awd and electronic suspension when those 1st came out it may be something that will never be right
I have a dodge stealth it sounds like the clutch isnt staying engaged. Now many places will tell you they know our cars but there full of **** you need to go to mitsubishi for your car anything but dealer wont know. Dodge didnt make the stealth mitsubishi did and they arnt dsm.
i am not sure if this helps at all but i have driven a 90' dodge pickup and it has that same steering problem and they said that is just the way they are, nothing you can do to fix it

Can my fiancee sponser me?

I am a UK citizen planning to marry my U.S fiancee next year. I am told that after we marry I must file to change my status. I am also told that in order for me to move to the U.S and get married my fiancee will need to file form I-864, Affidavit of Support in order to become my sponsor. Until now my fiancee has only worked voluntary so has no income tax records. She has just started her first fulltime paid job but is only earning $16,100 per year. She also currently has $12,000 in savings would this qualify her to sponsor me?

I should also add that we will be living alone and she does not have any additional household members. I also have $25,000 in savings which I will put into our U.S joint savings account before we marry.

I am hoping that this will be enough for her to sponsor me?

I would like to thank you in advance for your replies.

Did you know the fabian socialist, both republican and democrat have changed the USA to a communist country?

It's been happening for the last 100 years and it is time for the people to wake up.

Karl Marx was stating in the Communist Manifesto that these planks will test whether a country has become communist or not. If they are all in effect and in force the country IS communist. Communism, but by any other name鈥??

1. Abolition of private property and the application of all rent to public purpose.

The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution (1868), and various zoning, school %26amp; property taxes. Also the Bureau of Land Management.

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

Misapplication of the 16th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, 1913, The Social Security Act of 1936.; Joint House Resolution 192 of 1933; and various State %26quot;income%26quot; taxes. We call it %26quot;paying your fair share%26quot;.

3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

We call it Federal %26amp; State estate Tax (1916); or reformed Probate Laws, and limited inheritance via arbitrary inheritance tax statutes.
Did you know the fabian socialist, both republican and democrat have changed the USA to a communist country?
I see where you are pointing out Socialist ideologies slowly permeating the USA but that does not mean it is Communism. There is a difference. Communism intended for all lands to be PUBLICLY owned, not state-controlled. Also, %26quot;Communism embraced a revolutionary ideology in which the state would wither away after the overthrow of the capitalist system. In practice, however, the State grew to control all aspects of communist society.%26quot; - Oxford dictionary

This means that the idea was implemented improperly and what most people refer to as %26quot;communism%26quot; is based on Russia's model and those that followed, which are bastardizations of the original idea.

However, the US is becoming a %26quot;police state%26quot; for sure and the Patriot Act, etc. merely accelerate it and when Americans finally do realize it, it will be interesting to see the reaction.
Did you know the fabian socialist, both republican and democrat have changed the USA to a communist country?
hmm... perhaps you should spend 10 years in China and then decide if there is a difference dill hole...
Ummmm, Yeah, right. You my friend have way to much time on your hands. Why don't you get a job or go back to school? At least this way you'll be doing something positive and productive at the same time.

Oops, now Global Warming not to blame for this? Can they ever get it right?

The fabled snows of Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro may not succumb to global climate change as quickly as scientists had feared. A joint Austrian-U.S. research team that took seven years of measurements from weather stations atop Africa's tallest mountain says that its ice fields will be around for another 30 to 40 years /snip/ The research team found new evidence showing that lower precipitation鈥攁nd not rising temperatures on the summit鈥攊s the main cause for the Kilimanjaro glaciers' retreat.

From National Geographic too, start spin NOW!!!!!
Oops, now Global Warming not to blame for this? Can they ever get it right?
Thanks for the up-date over the glacier, but even George Bush is admitting publicly that America has to reduce the greenhouse gasses emitted in the US. Some people could say that is a Liberal view point, and he is flip flopping now.
Oops, now Global Warming not to blame for this? Can they ever get it right?
i don't know about that i don't care to read that article right now but i read an article today about the melting ice caps and how they are melting 30 years earlier than anticipated due to global warming.
    global warming is not real.
Exactly, the global warming myth is all it is. I am waiting for Al Gore one day to jump out and say, %26quot;You're on Candid Camera%26quot;, and laugh at him fooling all of us.

Also, didn't you know National Georgraphic is a right wing publicaton? I bet some member of the Church of Gore will say something like that.
maybe not everything is global warmings fault... granted...

but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist...

and that is just one study of course...

and why do Republlicans think ANY opinion other than theirs spin?
Global warming is junk science. How can you *not include* a 40-year period in the 1200s because it's an %26quot;anomaly%26quot;?
That's been known for quite some time, for those who cared to actually research things.

Of course, for most it's just easier to bleat, %26quot;GLOBAL WARMING, GLOBAL WARMING!!!%26quot; as the reason behind every melting piece of ice on the planet. That way, the only research you have to do is go to the movies.
what are we going to do about it??
They proved that it has nothing to do with human pollution. It's accelerated heating of the Sun, a million degrees hotter, that is predicted to incinerate the Earth in 20 minutes by 2009.
    Ummm warmer temps cause evaporation without precipitation. YEs, global warming lowers precipitation in some places while raising it in others. Nice try though. I know you WANT to believe everything will stay the same and never change, but like the song says %26quot;the times they are a changin'%26quot;
People, please! NOT ONE respected scientist disputes global warming as fact. The dispute is limited to man's involvement. Does human action contribute to global warming? The evidence collected thus far would suggest we collectively have about as much influence on global warming as a fly does to a 747.
