I have a 1989 caprice which has a vibration and kinda drives rough at 40 mph and higher only at the rear end. I test drove it at around that speed and started changing gears into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and the vibration was eliminated. It only does it at drive. I also rotated the tires and the same thing is still there. I had my driveshaft balanced and u-joint replaced. What can it be?
Vibration at 40 and up mph on the rear end. What can it be?
if you have done what youve said ithas to be a wheel bearing or you have 2 bad tires one on the front and one on the back
if you think its a tire try to guess what side it is and swap 1 tire from the front pass side to the drivers rear if that is the side

Did you check your shock absorbers? I had a car that did that and the mechanic couldn't find it. I crawled underneath it myself and found a broken shock after spending a small fortune on a mechanic.
transmission overdrive problem
vibration check try this put in gear and let it roll should tell you if its a wheel or tire...at speed its a balance problem which goes back to the first thing i said... if that dont stop it then try another drive shaft... for harder to find start trying wheels replace one at a time use your spare..... it will either be a bad wheel or drive shaft at speed... and dont take it back to the same shop you have before....try going slow first and see what you find bad wheels and tires show up bad at slow speed
is it a rwd? if so, the bearings could be needing an overhaul
drop the driveshaft at the rear and see if the pinion nut is tight, also maybe you have a rough bearing in 1 of the wheels. have someone follow you and ask them if you have a wheel wobbling.
