some one told me that it was my u joint is that true
I have a 2000 laredo and when i change gears it jerks like forward 4 drive and backwards for reverse why ?
That could be true and it could be false. I would get it on a lift and go through the gears and see if there is movement in the u joints.

it is possible. the drive shaft is engaging a lot of torque from the engine and the u joints may be loose/damaged so basically they are %26quot;slamming%26quot; the u joints as it turns to go forward or reverse.
