My truck is making an sqeeky noise please help?

i have a 97' jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 and it seems to be making a noise from the SHAFT? it's a sqeeky noise like if it where dry or something like that. this happened after i put on the 4x4 because we had a bad winter storm, could that have coused the squeaky noise? i took it to a mechanic shop and they said the shaft joints can be old, they told me they can take out the shaft and my truck can still run but i can't put on the 4x4.i recently changed the u-joints like a year ago so i know that cant be a the problem, please tell me if the shaft can be the problem or any suggestions

The biggest problem with replacing u-joints is that if improperly installed the seals can be damaged and allow water into them.

Rust builds up in no time and you will get a squeaky joint in no time.

Although depending on your model you may have 2 U-joints in the front drive shaft or four, 2 in the drive shaft and one at each steering knuckle.

Jeeps can be tricky. You might check the grease in your u-joints. Mine kept acting up and making terrible screeching noises. We changed the brakes thinking it could be the pads, the rudders, had the 4x4 system checked, etc. and it ended up being that the u-joints had leaked (or lost) the grease, so you might try checking that. I know they're a pain in the butt to check, but might save you a lot of money in the end.

Have fun and keep on rollin'.
